LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS
Silence is strictly observed in the library
Smoking, eating, and drinking are strictly prohibited in the library
Bags, helmets, slippers, files, and umbrella are not allowed in the library
Cell phones are not allowed to be used in the library. Making calls and receiving calls should be done in the lobby.
Patrons must be properly attired in accordance to the stipulated dress code in the KPTM regulations.

MEMBERSHIP
ELIGIBILITY
All full time and part time students of KPTMKCI, academic and non- academic staffs of KPTMKCI are eligible to be a registered member.
PROCEDURES FOR REGISTRATION
You are required to:
· Fill in an application form
· Attach a recent passport size photograph; and
· Submit the completed form to the library personnel on duty
A full time student is requested to register as a member on the first day of reporting to the college. If you are not able to complete the registration on that day, you may submit the application form within a month. Failure to do so will result in a fine of RM 2.00

COLLECTIONS
Ibn Khaldun Library is located on the 1st floor in the block A and B of KPTMKCI building. The name were given as Ibn Khaldun Library 1 (main library) and Ibn Khaldun Library 2. These libraries hold different types of collections.
The Ibn Khaldun Library 1 holds a collection of Open Shelf which is books and past examination papers.
While the Ibn Khaldun Library 2 holds a collection of periodicals, lecturers’ reserve collection, reference collection and media collection.
KPTMKCI library hold a collection of over 4000 volumes including books, periodicals, and multimedia devices. The library adopts the Library of Congress Classification System [LC] in the organization of all its materials. Our Catalog Online allows access to these materials and they are classified and grouped as follow:
Open Shelf [OS]
Open Shelf books are generally for circulation. These books are located in the general reading area in the Ibn Khaldun Library 1 on 1st floor in Block A KPTMKCI building.
Periodicals
There are over 20 titles of print periodicals available in the library. The current, unbound issues are displayed in the periodical sections in the Ibn Khaldun Library 2. The back issues are bound annually and placed in the reference collection section. Periodicals are non circulating items and can only be used in the library.
Reserve Collection
This collection is confined to high-demand materials that are separated from the general library collection; and are assigned restrictive loan periods to ensure greater availability to patrons. Most of the materials kept as reserve, are recommended readings by the lecturers. Other materials include are annual reports, past examination papers and newspaper cuttings.
Lecturer’s Reserve Collection
This collection is strictly reserve for the lecturers. Students are not allowed access to this collection.
Reference Collection
The Reference Collection is located in the Ibn Khaldun Library 2 on the 1st floor of Block B KPTMKCI building. It comprises general and subject dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, handbooks, manuals and other books that are available for quick referral and research questions. These materials, do not circulate, and have the designation “REF” before their call numbers.
Media collections
CD-ROM, DVD ROM, and sound recordings are among the formats available at the Media Section. Media equipment is also available for in-room use.
New Arrivals
New arrival of books being placed near the entrance of the main library. They are displayed for not more than a week
SERVICES
Reference and Information Services
If you have enquiries or need any assistance in using library materials, you can consult any of our staff. They can advise you on the availability of library resources and suggest appropriate library services.
Inter-library Loan (ILL)
Inter- library loan facilitates access to items that are not available at KPTMKCI Library. This service is extended to lecturers and full time students only. Patrons can request by filling in the ILL form. The length of time in which an item can be obtained will depend on its location and the mail service. Items on loan must be used in the library only and renewals are not possible.
Reserve
The Reserve collection has restrictive loan periods within 2 hours of reference in the library.
Photocopy
A photocopy service also being provided in the library for patrons’ convenience. The charges is 10 cent a copy.
Printing Service
Printing service is provide in the Ibn Khaldun Library 1. The charge is 20 cent for a copy
Wi-fi
Wi-fi service is available in the Ibn Khaldun Library 1. Students have to register their own laptop to get the service.
Audio Visual Room
There is one audio visual room located in the Ibn Khaldun Library 2. Lecturers may request to use that room for such purpose.
Internet Access Room
The library provide 8 computer terminals which student can access the internet and CD-ROM that available in the library. The internet access is restricted for 45 minutes for each user.
Discussion Room
One discussion room also provided in the Ibn Khaldun Library 1. Students may get permission from the library staff to use the discussion room.
BORROWING INFORMATION
Borrowing materials
Lecturers, staff, and students may borrow books and reserve materials at the circulation desk upon presentation of a valid KPTM ID. Patrons who borrowing library materials are responsible for the materials until they are officially returned to the library.
Loan Periods
The loan period for circulating items is 14 days, unless they are being recalled. The loan periods vary in accordance to patrons’ status and item type. Therefore, patrons should take note of the due date marked on each item. The library reserves the right to recall any material on loan. Determination of due dates does not include public holidays or days when the library is closed.

Recalls
The library reserves the right to recall any materials on loan. A fine of RM2.00 per day will be imposed for failure to respond to a recall notice.
Renewals
Books can be renewed at the circulation desk. Renewals should be made on or before the due date. Overdue charges will be levied for items past their due dates. A patron has to inform the library staff in person about a renewal and produce the book at the circulation desk. Books cannot be renewed if they are on hold for another patron; library record has been blocked.
Overdue fines
Patrons are expected to be responsible for keeping track of due dates and returning materials on time. Noticed are posted within 7 days of the item being overdue and a fine will be imposed. Failure to receive a notice does not exempt patrons from fines. Unpaid fines can result in suspension of borrowing privileges, cancellation of membership, blocked transcripts, and delayed graduation.

Reservation of materials
If a patron wishes to obtain an item that is already in circulation, a request for a reservation on that item may be made at the circulation desk. Once the item is returned, it will be kept for 7 days for the new borrower. If the item is not claimed by the new borrower, it will either be returned to the shelves or lent out to the next patron on the list.
Loss or damage of materials
Every borrower is responsible for the condition of the items borrowed. Any loss or damage of items should be reported immediately. The library has the authority to ask for compensation in the form of a replacement of the lost or damaged materials. The borrower will be charged the cost of the item as below:
Ø Local books - pay an estimated amount not exceeding RM100 and processing fee RM25.00
Ø Imported books – pay an estimated price not exceeding RM300 and processing fee of RM25.00
Suspension of Borrowing
A patron will be suspended from borrowing privileges if the due date exceeds 14 days. If the privileges are being terminated, no circulation transaction will be extended until al fines have been paid.
Address Change
It is the responsibility of every patron to notify the library of any change of address, phone number, or email address to avoid unnecessary difficulties in contacting patrons regarding reservation, overdue, and fines. Failure to do so may result in problem when trying to contact patrons.
